The aim of the work is determining of real volumes of beaver take within the territory of Kirov region, Russia, and creating of background for their objective estimation on the national basis. The data for the estimation of current taking of beaver were collected by experts on the basis of confidence survey of fur packers, hunters and game management specialists. Official statistical data were collected from Centrokhotcontrol bulletins based on hunting licenses (permits) filled by hunters. It is demonstrated that official statistics on beaver bag at the beginning of XXI century is extremely biased. The estimation of taking volumes of beaver from Centrokhotcontrol official bulletins leads to false conclusions. When it compared with a real taking, than official country-wide bag of beaver equals to the real bag of Kirov region only. This is beyond criticism. Considering low quality and incompleteness of primary data used in statistics the authors think that to prevent impoverishment of valuable fur species quantity the taking monitoring should be conducted with methods which differ from the ones currently officially used.
