In the collection of common hop (Humulus lupulus L.) 250 varieties of different maturity classes were studied. Twenty five early ripening, 33 medium early ripening, 100 medium ripening, 17 medium late, and 75 late-ripening varieties were selected as the result of the study. Within the groups there are some accessions of economically important traits and resistance to major diseases: within the group of early maturation - 1 high-yielding, 17 aromatic, 1 bitter, 15 resistant to downy mildew and 21 against root rot; within the group of medium early maturing - 2 high-yielding, 12 aromatic, 3 bitter, 1 with economically important traits, 25 resistant to false powdery mildew and 21 to root rot;  within group of medium ripe ripening - 40 high yielding, 42 aromatic, 9 bitter, 4 with economically important traits, 76 resistant to downy mildew and 62 against root rot;  within group of medium late maturing - 6 high yielding, 1 aromatic, 10 bitter, 4 with economically important traits, 8 resistant to downy mildew and 13 against root rot; within the group of late ripening - 12 high-yielding, 4 aromatic, 35 bitter, 10 with economically important traits, 41 resistant to downy mildew and 33 against root rot. As a whole 61 high yielding, 76 aromatic, 58 bitter, 19 with economically important traits, 165 resistant to downy mildew and 150 against root rot varieties were selected. On a complex of economically important traits there were selected: in the middle group - standard Podvjazny; in medium ripe ripening group – Sumer', Flagman (Russia), Roter Ausher (Czechoslovakia), Spolechny (Ukraine); in medium late maturing group - Marynka, Izabella, Clone RSG-280, Clone P/K 1 (Poland); in late ripening group - Prolific, OR-55, (England), Sovietsky, Kumir (Ukraine), Hallertau Nagnum (Germany), Atlas (Yugoslavia), Eurhop (Belgium), K-692266, Galena (USA), Friski (of unknown origin).
