Parameters of model varieties of winter barley for conditions of the Rostov region

As a result of perennial (1982-2010) studying of economic and biological indicators of collection material and varieties bred in All-Russian Scientific-research institute of Grain Crops after I.G. Kalinenko (VNIIZK after I.G. Kalinenko) optimal parameters are developed of the model varieties of winter barley of different idiotypes and economic use for conditions of the Rostov region. Classification of barley idiotypes is shown. An increase in the yield of winter barley in the conditions of the Rostov region has to go both by increasing number of grains per ear and grain size (Semi-intensive idiotype) and the increase of productive tillering and relatively high grain weight per plant (intensive idiotype). For the North-West, North-East and East zones of Rostov region varieties of semi-intensive idiotype type (Poljet, Master) are recommended. The intense varieties (Tigr, Timophej, Eryemа) must be placed in Central irrigated, South and Azov areas where they have to take a basic acreage. According to the developed parameters, six winter barley varieties bred in the last 5 years. Three of them (Timophej - 2012, Tigr - 2013, Eryemа - 2015) are included in the State Register of protected breeding achievements of the Russian Federation; three varieties of (Randevu, Vivat, and Fox 1) are tested successfully in State Commission for Testing and Protection of Selection Achievements of the Russian Federation.
